A interesting follow up to this would be the good and the bad of national conscription. If one is a non interventionist or even a isolationist they should want national conscription because forever wars wouldn’t be possible without major pushback from the conscripts.
Currently our nations war hawks can conduct endless wars because it is waged by volunteers and paid for via deficit spending. Thus the citizens for the most part have no skin in the game, don’t pay a war tax or suffer from rationing of any sort.
A all volunteer force in which I served for 32 years will go anywhere anytime and stay forever because generally speaking that’s why they joined.
